Before and After: Wicklow Extension Restoring Beauty

15 August 2016

Originally built in the 1980’s, this house incorporated a glass roof conservatory with dark teak and tinted glass windows and it was underutilised. Poor quality design meant that heat could not be regulated, transforming the room into a sauna in the Summer and in a fridge during the Winter.

The problems were solved by demolishing the old conservatory and rebuilding it using the expertise of Signature Windows & Doors. The brief was to increase comfort, retain light while moderating heat and to provide an expansive view into the landscaped gardens with minimal disruption. These are the results:

AFTER

Sunroom Extension Before1

Teak Tinted Glass windows made the room uncomfortable and were out of sync with the rest of the house.
Aluminium clad casement windows and French doors were used in the new sunroom.

Conservatory Before and After

All windows in the conservatory were removed and recycled. The conservatory was then demolished except for its foundation.
The sunroom kept an expansive view to the landscaped gardens with minimal disruption.

Conservatory Extension Before

Steal Frames were used to maintain the structure of the conservatory.
All units were handcrafted and factory finished.
