Cathedral Close Apartments Refurbishment Project
Located in Waterford City, this complex commercial replacement project demanded over 250 bespoke windows and doors in a large variety of shapes and sizes. The building originally featured old Georgian mock timber sash windows which presented numerous problems such as poor energy efficiency and draughts. Signature, on behalf of the client, liaised with SEAI and Waterford County Council to help qualify for a grant to upgrade the building with energy-efficient windows and doors.
Partnering with William Hogan & Associates Architects, Signature worked closely with the architect to achieve the client’s vision of achieving the original Victorian style facade combined with modern-day energy performance. Signature’s broad spectrum of available window types and sizes enabled a design solution that met the client’s vision of upgrading the facade with authentic Victorian styled windows and doors that featured advanced energy performance components.
The state-of-the-art performance materials include double glazing (Low-E coating and Argon gas) and triple sealing around the sash and frame. The engineered pine wood offers greater structure and durability as it is far less prone to warping.
Premium Quality Traditional Sliding Sash Windows
The sliding sash windows feature an 18mm centre bar with an Ovolo profile which was a common design feature of the Victorian period. This profile was specified on every product to embellish balance and symmetry throughout the complex.
Signature’s in-house architectural department provided window schedules for each apartment which gave a clear communication tool between both parties.

As time was crucial to the client in order to qualify for the grant, preparing highly detailed window schedules greatly reduced miscommunication which conserved the clients valuable budget and installation time schedule.
Signature’s experienced commercial installation team swiftly moved from apartment to apartment causing minimal disruption to the dwellers. Protective clothes were placed over furniture and decor to catch any dust before removing the old windows and doors.
